This paper would explore the street space through three distinct scales：the internal lanes and alleys within traditional residential communities； the elongated 'corridor streets' of Qilou buildings；and the external streets and roads throughout the Xiguan Old Town. By comparing urban residential communities with Chinese traditional settlements and historic districts，exploring three dimensions of exploring the sense of belonging residents in the city：Spatial Scale and Spatial Qualities；Space for Interaction；Place Identity.
